Welcome Back to School!!

"Welcome back!"
Hopefully that's something every teacher says to you when you come in on your first day.
What does it mean to you when they say that? Are you thinking something like:
"Yes! It's time to learn!"
Or something more like:
"Will the bus take me back home now?"

Whatever you may be thinking, the teachers are ready to teach you and they have tons of things planned for this new school year. Whether you're the kid that can't wait until last block or the kid who takes 20 pages of notes per class, the teachers are there, ready to teach all of you just the same.
This is just like God's relationship with us. No matter what kind of person we are or what we did this past summer, our teacher, God, is ready to forgive us and teach us about Him and His plans for our life. (look up Jeremiah 29:11) We just have to ask Him for his help, as well as let the past go, because He has already forgiven us of the past. He forgives us for our sin and wants us to turn to him for help. This doesn't mean, however, that we should keep being the bad kid and keep breaking rules just because he forgives us every time. Instead, we should learn from our mistakes and listen to the teacher for the right decision. (look up Romans 8:5) He gives us resources, like the Bible and the Holy Spirit; we just have to use them. Reading the Bible will prepare us for the trials of this life.... while praying to Him and being surrounded by the Holy Spirit will help us make the right choices. (Psalm 119:11) He forgives us and wants us to learn from Him, we just have to be willing to let the 'summer' go and let the ultimate teacher take over for a while.
Now, once we have listened and learned, we will be tested. We live in a sinful world so those tests may not be fun or easy and they may be very unexpected. But, He has equipped us with everything we need. While we are sitting in class or at home with nothing to do, we could be studying for the 'pop quiz' of life that may come next week. But, if we don't study, we may not be prepared for the test and we may choose the wrong choice, causing pain. If we don't surround ourselves with God when times are easy, then how can we expect Him to surround us when times are hard? He gave us the materials to study, so why not study them?

In closing, as you go into the new school year as students (or parents), I want you to remember a few things:
1.) God forgives you of your past, present, and future sins
2.) In order to receive this gift of forgiveness, we have to recognize that we are sinners and ask for His forgiveness
3.) Once forgiven, we need to live lives that are honorable to Him. To do this, we need to use the materials He has given us (prayer, the Bible, the Holy Spirit)
4.) God has given us the Bible so that we may be prepared for the test. Hide His word in your heart so that you are ready for when tests come your way
